PTBA Trainee Assistant -
Wears patch on left shoulder

Any Gup/Kup/Grade/Color Belt rank designated by a Head PTBA instructor to assist with Classes.
1 page essay on the responsibilities of a
martial arts trainee assistant.
1 page essay on positive re-enforcement.
Head Instructor submits recommendation to the
PTBA headquarters.
Trainee Instructor Oath must be signed by the
Trainee and Head Instructor.
Recommendation must be filled out by the Head Instructor.

Head Instructor
Any one operating a school would also hold the title of
Head Instructor:
This person must go through the Certified Instructor Program.
These individuals need to submit a 5 - 10 page paper on
"The responsibilities of a head instructor"
Sign the Head Instructor Oath.

Certified Black Belt Instructor
Wears Black Pants

At least a 1st Dan.
Logged a minimum of 60 hours teaching as a 1st Degree or higher.
(head instructor can put a cap on the number of classes available per week)
An active Official in 3 belt tests as a Black Belt.
Current CPR certification.
2 page paper, "What are the responsibilities of a martial arts instructor."
1 page essay on leadership. (If not previously submitted).

1 page essay on positive re-enforcement.

Video submitted teaching a juniors class and an adult class within the last 1 month.
Examination regarding various under belt material
and martial arts information.

Certified Instructor Oath must be signed by the Candidate and Head Instructor.

Certified Senior Black Belt Instructor
Wears Black Pants with White (Korean Trim top)
with Black Stripe down sleeves.

At least a 2nd Degree.
Logged 120 hours instructing as a Black Belt of
which a minimum of 40 hours must be at
2nd Degree or higher.
(Head instructor can put a cap on the number of
classes available per week).
An active Official in 6 belt tests as a black Belt
with at least 2 being while a 2nd Degree or higher.
3 page paper, "How to teach different learning
styles including students with learning disabilities."
All previous essays if not already submitted.
Video submitted teaching a juniors class.
Video submitted teaching an adult class within the last 1 month.
Examination regarding various under belt material and
martial arts information.
Written recommendation of the Schools recognized
PTBA Head Instructor.
Certified Chief Instructor Oath must be signed by the
Candidate and Head Instructor.

Certified Chief Senior Black Belt Instructor
Wears black pants with white stripe and Korean trim top with black sleeves.

At least 3rd Dan.
Logged 200 hours instructing as a black belt of
which a minimum of 50 hours must be at
3rd Degree or higher.
(Head instructor can put a cap on the number of
classes available per week).
Have sat as a judge on 12 testing panels with at least 3 being
while a 3rd Degree or higher.
CPR certification.
All previous papers if not already submitted
3 page paper, "The proper interaction between instructors and
parents of minor students."
Video submitted teaching a juniors class.
Video submitted teaching an adult class within the last 1 month.
Examination regarding various under belt material and
martial arts information.
Written recommendation of the Schools recognized
PTBA Head Instructor.
Certified Senior Chief Instructor Oath must be signed by the
Candidate and Head Instructor.

Certified Associate Master/Trainee Master Instructor - Wears black pants with white striping and a black top with white collar.

At least 4th Dan for a minimum of 6 months.
Logged 350 hours instructing as a Black Belt of
which a minimum of 75hours must be at
4th Degree or higher.
(Head Instructor can put a cap on the number of
classes available per week)
Have sat as a judge on 20 testing panels with at least 5 being
while a 4th Degree or higher.
CPR certification.
All previous papers if not already submitted
8 page paper, "How to lead Instructors."
Video submitted teaching a juniors class
Video submitted teaching an adult class within
the last 1 month.
Examination regarding various under belt material and
martial arts information judged by the school’s Head
Instructor and Master Hendrix (may be submitted by video to
the PTBA HQ for evaluation).
Written recommendation of the Schools recognized PTBA
Head Instructor
Certified Associate Master Instructor Oath must be signed by the
Candidate and Head Instructor.

Wears black pants with white striping and a black top with white collar and white trim
around base of uniform top.

At least 5th Dan for a minimum of 6 months.
Logged 700 hours instructing as a Black Belt of
which a minimum of 250 hours must be at
5th Degree or higher.
(Head instructor can put a cap on the number of
classes available per week).
Have sat as a judge on 36 testing panels with at least 10being
while a 5th Degree or higher.
CPR certification.
All previous papers if not already submitted
20 page thesis, "What is a martial arts master?"
Interview with PTBA Founder.
Video submitted teaching adults.
Video submitted teaching juniors.
Video submitted teaching adult black belts.
Video submitted teaching junior black belts.
Must hold a regional position in the PTBA.
Examination regarding various under belt material and
martial arts information judged by Master Hendrix at PTBA HQ.
Written recommendation of the Schools recognized
PTBA Head Instructor.
Certified Master Instructor Oath must be signed by the
Candidate and Head Instructor.

Certified Senior Master Instructor
Wears black pants with white striping and a black top with white collar, white trim around base and a white stripe down the arm with white striped cuffs.

At least a PTBA 6th Dan for a minimum of 6 months.
Logged 1250 hours instructing as a Black Belt
of which a minimum of 250 hours must be at
6th Degree or higher.
(Head instructor can put a cap on the number of
classes available per week).
Have sat as a judge on 55 testing panels with at least 10 being
while a 6th Degree or higher.
Hold a PTBA Master Instructor Rank.
CPR certification.
All previous papers if not already submitted.
20-30 page thesis on a topic chosen by the founder for the candidate.
Interview with PTBA Founder.
Must hold a regional position in the PTBA.
Examination regarding various under belt material and
martial arts information judged by Master Hendrix at PTBA HQ.
Written recommendation of the Schools recognized
PTBA Head Instructor.
Certified Sr. Master Instructor Oath must be signed by the
Candidate and Head Instructor.

Currently With PTBA You Must:

• Own a club or school (currently individuals can't join unless they are joining as a chartered school or club or unless they are joining through a chartered club/ school. ie as a student in a PTBA chartered school or club).

• You must have a PTBA school charter which is $45.00 per year.

• You must have an annual Black Belt membership which is $9.00 per year

• All students must be registered ( must have a minimum of 5). The cost is $5.00 per person.

• Each testing must be done through PTBA (certificates are $2.50 not filled out with the students name and rank or $3.50 filled out)

• Must become PTBA Dan certified

• A Head instructor's rank is evaluated with a resume and video demonstration of technique at which time a provisional rank is decided upon and the applicant will be verbally notified of this, however there is a 4 month waiting period after this has all been submitted before a certificate is issued to show that the person is dedicated to the association. In the interim, they may conduct PTBA sanctioned testing as soon as a provisional rank is given.

• 1st to 3rd dan the fee is $45

• 4th dan to 6th dan the fee is $55

• You can have other affiliations as long as all the previous is met.

• There is an additional 6 month waiting period after the rank is officially certified and the certificate issued before an instructor title is issued. There are specific requirements for each instructor level such as a particular PTBA certified rank that must be held and paper that must be written. However the fee for this is only $15.00 to cover adminstrative costs.
